Bonnie & Pino’s Wedding
September 28th – October 1st 2017
Family & Friends,
We are overjoyed you are able to come celebrate with us in Capri as we start a new and exciting chapter in our lives! By now you have at least received the save the date and should be receiving the official invite soon. We know you have all been wondering about the details and hope the information here answers most of your initial questions regarding travel and accommodation options in order for you to start planning. Below we will do our best to explain the routes / airlines / hotels / island info needed for the trip.
ACCOMMODATIONS
Please contact the hotels directly and kindly keep in mind that the rooms are on a first come first serve basis so we recommend booking sooner rather than later. It is low season so prices are lower be sure to mention this when booking. All of these hotels are walking distance from the Piazetta (except for JK Place Capri), the main square where we will be meeting for most of the events. We recommend staying in Capri center where our events will take place, as opposed to Anacapri, an equally beautiful part of the island.
HOTELS
Hotel La Scalinatella
This hotel was founded by local Capresi. It is a 5 star hotel with exceptional service and Bonnie’s favorite on the island. Enjoy a night cap with Genario and a beautiful sunrise breakfast overlooking the sea and cliffs. This hotel is a boutique hotel and traditional Italian in style and aesthetic. It is a bit more secluded and away from the touristy area of the main piazza. It is charming and old school
Hotel Casa Morgano
This hotel is the sister hotel to La Scalinatella. It is a few steps away and they share a pool and gym. Their rooms are lower priced as they decor has not been updated. It is also chamring and old school.
Hotel Quisiana
One of the larger hotels on the island and very traditionally Italian. The rooms are a bit smaller than Scalinatella’s but a similar charm with a big pool and generous balcony. It is very central. Mr. Morgano also manages this hotel.
Hotel Flora Capri
Another boutique style hotel located to the left of Quisiana with great rates, updated rooms, and a central location. For people who would rather be in town, pick this place. Also managed by Mr. Morgano.
Hotel Villa Brunella
Right down the street from Scalinatella is this hotel which is very quaint with large bright rooms and a romantic resturaunt. It has older decorations, very charming, and a great view of the sea from high up.
Hotel Punta Tragara
This hotel is a bit of a walk, at the end of Via Tragara. The beautiful architecture makes up for the longer distance from the center of town. The rooms are higher priced here as it is one of the small luxury hotels. The reason to stay here is for the view. It is more bohemian in style.
Capri Tiberio Palace
This place is also a five star hotel and has a trendier more modern aesthetic and is very colorful with fantastic private terraces. It is located on the walk to the rehershal dinner.
JK Place Capri
Hearlded as one of the most beautiful hotels in the world, JK Place does not disappoint. However, note that this is not close to the main piazza. It is a 30 minute walking distance or you will have the option to take a golf cart transfer to get up to the town, allow time to get to the events as the carts are not always readily available. It is the most modern and upscale on the island.
Hotel Reginella
This is a super cute 2 star hotel with great rates. It books quickly and we do not have a direct contact here.
Hotel Villa Sara
A very quaint 3 star hotel with great prices, more secluded and a bit of a hike to get up to, close to our rehesheral dinner location.
VILLA RENTALS
Villa rentals are also an easy way to enjoy the island especially if you are traveling with a bigger group. We do not have any specifics on this at the moment.
GETTING TO CAPRI
We recommend flying either to Milan or Rome (non-stop) or Naples (1 stop). For flights directly through to Napoli with a stop in Paris, we highly recommend taking only a hand luggage or a longer connecting time. Check with your airlines the size and weight of the hand luggage allowed as many international flights now have restrictions. From Milan, you will find that the direct flights are cheaper and you can make a connecting flight via Easyjet. For Rome, it is very simple to take the train to Naples. Once you arrive in Naples you will need to take a short taxi ride to the ferry hydrofoil. Some hotels offer a direct transfer but these are generally very expensive. The hydrofoil is a fast 45-minute ferry to the island of Capri. Make sure to have a pdf on your phone or a print out of the receipt to pick up your ticket. You must pick up your ticket before you board. The pdf on your phone will not suffice, you need a hard copy of your ticket.

Travel Time: 45min
Once you’ve arrived at the Marina Grande in Capri there are buses and taxis available to bring you to the center of town. It's worth the experience to get in one of the convertible taxis that drive you up the windy roads to the center of town. The taxis will drop you off close to the Piazetta. They charge between 15 – 25 euros depending on the time of the day and the number of suitcases.
The center of town is as far as the taxis go and then you have a short walk to your accommodation if you are staying in a hotel as cars are not allowed. If you are staying in a private home/villa out of the center of town or in Anacapri the buses and taxis generally will take you directly to it.
MORE ON FLIGHTS
We recommend the website and app skyscanner to find the best value with the fastest commute. Capri is a small island and not a huge resort so there are no logical bundle deals that we have encountered but American Express might offer good reward packages.
From New York –
Meridana is the only direct airline that flys from JFK – Naples non-stop.
You can fly JFK – Naples with a stop in Paris or Rome on most airlines including Alitalia, Delta, Air France, Lufthansa, and Swiss. We recommend taking a hand luggage as many of the connecting flights have short windows and your bag might not make it onto the connecting flight to Naples.
Another option is to fly JFK – MILAN (MXP) and transfer to an Easyjet. Trusted airlines that fly to Milan include Emirates, American Airlines, Delta, Alitalia, Jetblue, Air France, and Swiss. In Milan you have to transfer to another terminal and hop onto an Easyjet. Easyjet is a European airline and flights are as low as 60 euros one way. This is a great way to save on your flights because fares to Milan are often 15% cheaper than fares to Rome. Keep in mind there will be a longer travel time if you take this route.
JFK – Rome (FCO) is great because you can go to the train station in Rome and it is an 1.5 hour train from Rome to Naples so no need to take two planes plus you get the train experience. Flights to Rome seem to be slightly higher than to Milan.
From Houston
IAH – Rome is the most convenient and direct option. Air france, Alitlaia, Swiss, and United all fly this route. You can hope on the train in Rome and get to Naples in 1.5 hours.
From Switzerland
Nonstop you can fly from Basel to Napoli on Easyjet. Multiple airlines fly from Zurich to Napoli.
From All Other Locations
Travel is essentially the same. Depending where you are coming from, you will need a flight that arrives in Europe and you can find a transfer to get to Naples. From there, the airlines and trains mentioned above are the most commonly used and trusted.
Milan – Naples – takes 1 hour to Milan Centrale from airport, then 4.5 hours on train to Naples, if you plan to make stops in Florence, Rome etc then it’s a great option
Easy Jet from Milan, this is a European small airlines so they have different rules in terms of travel. If you want to take a carry on bag larger than 1 purse you need to book easy jet speedypass otherwise they will make you check your bag.
WHAT TO BRING
The climate in Capri is warm and sunny with a light breeze at night. Temperatures during this season range from 70˚ to 76˚ Fahrenheit and the water stays as warm as it is in August. Some locals have told us however that last September due to global warming the weather was equally as warm as August, which temperatures can get up into the high 80s, and feel as warm as the 90s.
Days are usually pleasantly warm to hot, with nights being a bit cooler. At most the ladies may need a light wrap or jean jacket in the evening and men should be fine with a light blazer or just a long sleeve shirt but its usually not necessary. Bathing suits are for the beach, pool, or yacht, but not for strolling shops or in the town.
You will walk a lot so please pack comfortable cute walking shoes, if you forget to don’t worry there are plenty of shops to buy Italian shoes there. You must be very talented to walk in stilettos on the slanted cobble stone pathways so we recommend a chunkier heel, espadrille, or wedge for the ladies.
In terms of attire we will have specific events listed closer to the date of the wedding on our website. For the ceremony no shorts and women’s shoulders must be covered in the church. For the reception, we are asking everyone to wear cocktail attire. We recommend you to pack something elegant and easy. Our wedding party will have a specific color palette and inspiration board emailed to them separately.
ABOUT CAPRI
If we could create the island of our dreams, we could not improve on this one that already exists. At a bit more than four square miles, it is easily explored. Capri has a rich lush history; it is the most ancient resort on Earth, dating all the way back to Roman emperor Augustus, more than two thousand years ago.
Capri’s beauty is breath taking: jutting proudly from the Mediterranean Sea, full of beautiful flowers, hidden hikes, deep caves like the famous Blue Grotto, and because cars are prohibited you walk everywhere. Here on this tiny island, everything seems to taste better, the fresh mozzarella, the cherry tomatoes, the fruits, the freshly-snared fish, the pastas, pizzas and of course the limoncellos. Capri has long been an escape for many creative including movie director Jean Luc Goddard who filmed Contempt with Brigit Bardot here, the controversial political writer and novelist Curizio Malaparte, Jackie O, Valentino, and Audrey Hepburn.
American hair dryers will not work there so get one from the hotel or purchase one in Europe.
The currency is Euros and credit cards are accepted everywhere, there are plenty of ATMs (bancomats).
Be sure to travel with your passport.
Tipping: most places include a VAT (MWSt), a service charge, with the menu and on top of that it is not customary to give tip but if you think the service is exceptional you can give a few additional euros.
SHOPPING
Stroll along the Via Camerelle and the Via Vittorio Emanuele for Pucci, Prada, Valention and Docle and Gabanna. Around the Piazetta you will find lovely jewelry stores and smaller boutiques. Hidden on the maze behind the Piazetta are other local boutiques like Sud Capri and 100% Capri.
GETTING AROUND
Wherever you stay on the island you will not need a car. You do not need to arrange a taxi in advance to take you from the ferry to the main piazza. There will be many there to greet you right when you get off the ferry, simply tell them the name of your hotel. We will provide transportation for you for all planned events.
OUR FAVORITE STROLLS
One of the most peaceful things on the planet are the walks or rather hikes of Capri.
There is a walk to Villa Jovis on the northeast side of Capri. On the way to the Villa Lysis you can walk past the Casa Malaparte. Other walks are the Arco Naturales, The Blue Grotto, the monastery Certosa di San Giacomo, the gardens of Augutus, the walk around the property at Villa San Michele, and the Marina Piccola by way of Via Krupp. During the day it is a hike to walk down to the beach clubs, wear comfortable shoes as opposed to cutesy sandals otherwise you can take a boat from the Marinas.
